FunkBuster #1–In which the author provides a weekly reason to throw you hands in the air . . .
This past weekend I was in Golden Gate Park listening to the annual Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Concert.
I had a little child on my shoulders and we walked through the park listening to all the great music. Then the little guy started . . . vibrating.
His hands beat time on the top of my head as I turned in the direction of the new music.
Through the Eucalyptus trees came the throbbing sound of pure, pulsating fun. The crowd roared along, and my head got THWACKED with each chorus.
We went down to investigate….
The source of the sound was Gogol Bordello, a band that modestly calls themselves Gypsy Punk.
Is that the right category?
I don’t know.
Does the lead singer look and sound a little bit like a genuine Borat?
Possibly.
Does their wild, energetic music make little children vibrate like the Tremelo on the end of Eddie Van Halen’s guitar?
Yes.
